In the lead-up to the Sustainable Discovery Show, taking place on Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th May 2025 at Chelsea Town Hall, The Green Londoner — media partner of the event — caught up with co-founder Elisha Carter. 1. What sparked the idea behind Sustainable Discovery?

Elisha: Sustainable Discovery was born from a genuine desire to make conscious living feel exciting, accessible, and deeply human. I care deeply about the planet and love discovering beautifully crafted products—but I noticed a gap. There wasn’t a space where sustainability and creativity came together in a way that felt joyful and inclusive.

At the same time, ethical and purpose-led brands often get overshadowed by mainstream retail. I wanted to create a space where those brands could be celebrated—not just for their products, but for their stories and impact. A space where shoppers, retailers, and curious Londoners could discover, connect, and feel inspired. That’s how the idea took root.

2. How do you select the brands and makers featured at the show?

Elisha: I curate every exhibitor with intention. Of course, sustainable materials matter—but I go further. I look for transparency, ethical production, circular design, local manufacturing, and social impact. Are they walking the talk? Are they challenging norms?

Each brand is assessed through an ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) verification process in partnership with an ESG consultancy, so I can be confident they meet clear standards. What matters most is authenticity—real people doing real work to build a better future.

3. What makes this event different from a traditional market or trade fair?

Elisha: It’s not just a shopping experience—it’s a discovery journey. We’ve designed the show to be immersive, engaging, and inspiring. Yes, you’ll meet brilliant independent makers and shop their products, but you’ll also attend expert-led talks, join hands-on workshops, and connect with a like-minded community.

Each edition explores a theme. This year, we’re focusing on Textile Waste and The Dimensions of Wellness. We’ll be offering a wide range of holistic experiences to help visitors explore sustainability in a mindful and joyful way.

4. How are consumer expectations around sustainability evolving?

Elisha: They’ve evolved significantly. More people are asking thoughtful questions: Where does this come from? How was it made? Who made it?

Sustainability is no longer seen as a trend — it’s essential. There’s a growing hunger for transparency, circularity, and values-led choices. More consumers now want to live sustainably in every aspect of their lives, from their wardrobes to their kitchen cupboards. It’s about impact, intention, and long-term thinking.

5. What can visitors expect on the day?

Elisha: We’ve curated an exciting mix of purpose-driven brands across all lifestyle sectors—from fashion and homeware to wellness and food. Visitors can explore beautifully made products, meet the people behind them, and learn more about their stories.

There will be thought-provoking talks on regenerative living, ethical entrepreneurship, and sustainable home design. You can also join creative and wellness workshops—like learning how to make your own skincare with Bodhi Naturae, try gua sha facial techniques, or explore wellness jewellery, tarot, and crystal healing.

We’ll also have complimentary cold-pressed juices and matcha, five-minute head, neck, and shoulder massage experiences offered by BAYOU spa, and a free goodie bag filled with sustainable products, offers, and surprises. The whole day is about sparking curiosity and joy.

6. What kind of impact do you hope the show will have?

Elisha: For the brands, it’s about real visibility, connection, and sales—but also support, exposure, and community. Many of them are working so hard behind the scenes. They deserve to be seen, heard, and celebrated.

For visitors, my hope is that they leave feeling inspired and empowered. Even one meaningful conversation or discovery can spark lasting change. My mission is to nurture a culture where sustainability feels engaging—not overwhelming. It should feel human and hopeful.

7. What’s next for Sustainable Discovery?

Elisha: There’s so much potential. I’m exploring regional pop-ups and partnerships with educational institutions. I’d love to bring the spirit of Sustainable Discovery to new communities and places.

I believe in organic growth, strong values, and consistent effort. We’re just getting started, and I’m always open to working with creative partners who share our mission.

8. One final message for The Green Londoner community?

Elisha: Keep going. Living consciously doesn’t have to be perfect—just intentional. Introduce sustainability into every room of your home, from food and clothing to homeware and wellbeing.

Celebrate the small wins. Stay curious. Take care of your mind and body. And support the people and brands doing things differently. Change happens through community—and you’re part of that.
